Reviving Kelley Park's Koi Ponds: A Call for Quality Filters and Community Support
The Coyote Creek flood devastated the peaceful garden at Kelley Park in February 2017. The lovely tea house in the park was completely inundated, and the filtration system and pumps for the koi ponds were seriously damaged. The San Jose Parks Foundation overcame several obstacles to move the remaining koi to a single pond. The foundation placed the portable pond filters as a short-term remedy to restore the pond's environment in 2018. The San Jose Parks Foundation has launched an important drive to fund $18,000 to install a more powerful filtration system as calls for such reverberate throughout the park. Up to the end of January, an unknown donor has offered to double donations up to $7,500.
